The Devil de Netflix in Ohio will be based on the 2017 novel of the same name of the author Daria Poattin. It is based on a true story and Poattin initially wrote a version as a television pilot, so this limited series loops in a way. Polatin commented this in an interview with criticism of books:
I was interested in writing about what happens to people when they were in isolated communities, and I wrote a television driver on a cult. Then, when I heard the true story of a teenager who escaped from a satanic cult and moved with the family of her psychiatrist, I had to say it. A novel seemed to be an exciting way to write this story, and the real events have become inspiration for Mae, Jules and the Mathis family. Devil in Ohio explores the timeless struggle between good and evil, and the force it takes to overcome the adversity of your past.
Here is the story of the synopsis for Devil in Ohio as we can see on the official Polatin website:When Jules Mathis, fifteen years old, returns from school to find a strange girl sitting in her kitchen, her psychiatrist mother reveals that Mae is one of her patients in the hospital and will stay with their family for a few days. But soon Mae wears Jules’ clothes, sleeps in her room, leaving her position on school paper and flirts with the Beguin de Jules. And Mae does not intend to leave.
So things become bizarre. Jules enters a half -dressed MAE, surprised to see: a pentagram carved in the back of Mae. Jules brings together clues and discovers that Mae is a survivor of strange worship which is anchored in a neighboring city. And worship does not stop at anything to recover MAE.
Asked about the details of the origins of the story, Polatin replied:The book is based on a true story, of which I will keep wraps, but many of what is happening in the book has really happened. I took an artistic license in order to fill the whites and flesh the story in a way that worked for a book.
