Banks To Remain Closed On These Days In January 2022: Full List Here

Bank holidays in January 2022: Banks will remain closed because some festivals this month are under the instruments that can be negotiated acting in several countries. Some of the festivals observed this month including Bihu, Pongal / Sankranti Makar, among others, because where banks in some countries will still be closed according to the actions of the instrument that can be negotiated, according to the Bank of India (RBI) reserves. All banks throughout the country will be closed on January 26 because of the Republican Day.

The central bank has classified Bank holidays under three categories, which include, holidays under the Nego Instrument Law and a real-time gross settlement holiday, vacation based on state instrument laws, and bank closure.

According to the RBI, few states will observe bank holidays due to the upcoming festivals on the following days:

January 1, 2022: New Year’s Day

January 3, 2022: New Year’s Celebration/Losoong

January 4, 2022: Losoong

January 11, 2022: Missionary Day

January 12, 2022: Birthday of Swami Vivekananda

January 14, 2022: Makar Sankranti/Pongal

January 15, 2022: Uttarayaana Punyakaala Makar Sankranti Festival/Maghe Sankranti/Sankranti/Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day/Gaan-Ngai/Magh Bihu

January 18, 2022: Thai Poosam

January 26, 2022: Republic Day

  • January 1, 2022: Banks will be closed in Aizwal, Chennai, Shillong, Gangtok, and Imphal on account of New Year’s
  • January 3, 2022: Banks will be shut in Aizwal and Gangtok on account of New Year’s or Losoong
  • January 4, 2022: Banks will observe a holiday in Gangtok on account of Losoong
  • January 11, 2022: Banks will be closed in Aizwal due to Missionary Day
  • January 12, 2022: Banks will be shut in Kolkata on account of Swami Vivekananda’s birthday
  • January 14, 2022: Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Imphal on account of Makar Sankranti/Pongal
  • January 15, 2022: Banks will observe a holiday in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, and Hyderabad on account of Uttarayaana Punyakaala Makar Sankranti Festival/Maghe Sankranti/Sankranti/Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day
  • January 18, 2022: Banks will be closed in Chennai due to Thai Poosam
  • January 26, 2022: Banks will be shut across the country on account of Republic Day

January 9, 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

Even when banks in various countries are closed because the observed festivals or holidays stated by the RBI, customers can use services such as ATMs, online banking, net banking, etc.
