Jerusalem: The wave of omicron infection can see Israel achieve the immunity of herd, the state health official said on Sunday because everyday cases continue to climb.

The omicron variant which is very transplanting has brought a surge in the case of Coronavirus throughout the world. Infections around the world have reached a high record, with an average of more than one million cases detected daily between 24 and 30 December, according to Reuters data. However, death has not risen in the form of goods, bringing hopes of the new variant less deadly.

Until the end of December, Israel managed to prevent Omicron to a certain extent but with the rate of infection now getting a step, the case of everyday is expected to reach the highest record in the next three weeks. This can lead to herd immunity, said Director General of the Ministry of Health, Ash Nachman.

“The cost will be a lot of infection,” Ash told Radio 103FM. “These numbers must be very high to achieve herd immunity. This is possible but we don’t want to achieve it by means of infection, we want it to happen as a result of many people who vaccinate,” he said.

About 60% of the 9.4 million Israeli population is fully vaccinated – almost all with the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine – according to the Ministry of Health, which means they have received three doses or have their second dose recently. But hundreds of thousands of those who qualified for the third inoculation so far have not taken it.

About 1.3 million cases of Coronavirus were documented in Israel since the start of Pandemi. But between two and four million people may be infected at the end of January when the omicron wave can subside, according to Eran Segal, data scientists at the Weizmann Science Institute and Government Advisor.

Over the past ten days, daily infections have more than four times. Severe cases have also risen but at a much lower level, up from around 80 to around 100.

Witnessing heavy morbidity carefully, Ash is considering allowing the fourth dose of vaccine for people over 60, after his approval last week for compromising and elderly people in care houses.
