The new zoom video conference software is found to have a defect in the Mac client that allows hackers to get long distance access to the user system. Now, the company has launched an update for its macOS application that improves vulnerability without affecting the application features of the application.

Last week, Zoom had acknowledged the defect previously discovered by a security researcher named Patrick Wardle. Wardle, a security researcher and founder of the Objective-See Foundation, a non-profit that made the MacOS Open-Source security device, first found a defect and presented it at the Def Con Hacking Conference which took place last week. Exploitation targets zoom installation, which requires special user permission to run. By utilizing this tool, hackers can deceive users to install dangerous programs by placing zoom cryptographic signatures on it. After being installed, the attacker can get control over the user system, let it modify, delete, or add files to the device.

With an update 5.11.5, Zoom has improved vulnerability. Users can download updates by opening their applications on MacOS devices and then going to Zoom.us from the menu bar above the screen. Users can check updates and if one is available, Zoom will display windows with the latest application versions, along with details about what changes. From here, users can choose updates to start downloading the application.

Wardle, a security researcher, also praised Zoom for a quick response. “Mahalos to enlarge to (amazing) fast repairs!,” He said in a tweet. “Turning the patch, we see the installation of Zoom now asking Lchown to renew the reform permit .PKG, thus preventing evil subversion,” he said.
