Risk for life on Earth: NASA shares list of potentially hazardous asteroids
- by acbconcept
In our solar system, the earth is surrounded by several evil neighbors and they threaten to destroy everything on their path. Including comets and asteroids, this is known as a close object (neo). This is a small solar system whose orbit takes it to closeness to the earth.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a Federal US Government Independent Agent responsible for the Civil Space Program, has issued a list of potentially dangerous asteroids that can destroy our blue planet. This is the list:
1) Amor Asteroids
Named after the object of basic pattern 1221 amor, this is a group of asteroids near-earth. With most Amor crossing Mars orbit, the orbitals of these objects are close but bigger than, the earth’s orbital aphelion. There are 7427 amor asteroids known in our solar system. 1153 is given a number. Scientists have named 75 of them.
2) Apollo Asteroids
Named after 1862 Apollo, Asteroid Apollo is also a group of asteroids near-earth. In the 1930s, they were discovered by German astronomer Karl Reinmuth. They are asteroids that cross the earth. They have a semi-payor orbital axis larger than earth. However, their perihelion distance is less than the distance of Aphelion Bumi. With a diameter of about 8.5 km, the largest Apollo Asteroid known is 1866 Sisyphus.
3) Aten asteroids
This is a dynamic asteroid group. Their orbit brought them close to our blue planet. Also known as, asteroids across the earth, this group was named after 2062 Aten. That is the first of its type. It was found on January 7, 1976. American astronomer Eleanor Helin found it in Palomar Observatory. Until now, 1841 attention has been found. Thirteen named.
4) Atira Asteroids
This is an asteroid whose orbit is completely limited in the earth’s orbit. In other words, their orbit has an aphelion (the farthest point of the sun) smaller than the earth’s perihelion (the closest point to the sun). Compared to Aten, Apollo, and Amor Asteroids, Atira Asteroids until now the smallest group of near-earth objects.
